Earlier this year, Black Opal Ventures’ Eileen Tanghal participated in a panel at the London Business School Healthcare Club's Conference. She sat alongside Dr. Dan O’Connor from ABPI, Dr. Virgina Acha from MSD, and Dr. James Duboff from Genomics England to discuss the ethics of scientific innovation. Eileen discussed the importance of leading with impact and how reducing bias in product is critically important in healthcare.
Together, the panelists discussed the merits of the use of technology to improve healthcare access and reduce costs with a healthy debate about whether Big Tech and tech venture capital could really shake up the system. The panel also touched on how the current regulatory frameworks can inadvertently discourage the use of alternate sources of data such as genomic data. The panelists concluded the discussion with all agreeing that for the healthcare industry to change for the better, external thinking and outsiders with applicable lessons from other industries should continue to work together.
