As the year comes to a close, we celebrate a year of continued progress towards our mission of using frontier tech to solve the hardest problems in health and security. We want to thank our limited partners, our coinventors, portfolio companies, and community for your support and wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and best wishes in the new year.

As we reflect on the year behind us, these twelve milestones capture the scope and substance of what our companies have built and where we’re heading next.

1. Recognized for Impact with the Impact Asset 50

This year, Black Opal Ventures was honored to be named to the ImpactAssets 50 2025 as an Emerging Impact Manager. The recognition reflects the collective work of our companies and partners who are tackling some of the hardest problems across healthcare, life sciences, security, and infrastructure.

2. Our Second Annual Impact Report

We published our Second Annual Impact Report to deepen transparency around what impact truly looks like in practice. The report quantifies outcomes across our portfolio, from operational efficiencies to clinical progress, because accountability matters when impact is the goal.

3. $3.6M in Annualized Savings

FlyteHealth delivered $3.6 million in annualized cost savings in its comprehensive obesity care program with the State of Connecticut. In an industry under constant financial pressure, these savings translate directly into increased capacity, reduced burnout, and more resilient care delivery systems.

4. The Fourth Class of Black Opal Fellows

We launched our fourth class of Black Opal Fellows, continuing our commitment to supporting exceptional early-career operators and technologists. The fellowship is designed not just as a learning experience, but as a force multiplier—connecting talent directly to high-impact companies and real responsibility.

5. Five Technology Platforms for Outpace Bio AI-Powered Protein Design

Outpace’s five proprietary technology platforms enhancing potency, persistence, safety, specificity, and tumor-localized immune activation in engineered cell therapies. Together, these platforms enable the design of smarter, more durable CAR-T therapies capable of tackling some of the most complex and treatment-resistant cancers.

6. Six Systems, Twenty-One Pregnancies

Conceivable deployed six systems as part of an ongoing clinical trial, resulting in 21 pregnancies. These outcomes underscore why we invest early in technologies that pair deep science with thoughtful design.

7. 7.5 kb to 50 kb DNA Sequencing delivered by Ansa Biotechnologies

This year, Ansa Biotechnologies launched their ultra-long clonal DNA service, which is delivering a new synthesis service for clonal DNA up to 50 kb in length.

8. 8 out of 10 Repetitive Tasks Automated with Hyro

Hyro achieved 85% or higher automation rates for customers, dramatically reducing manual workload while improving access and responsiveness.

9. 9 out of 10 cyber-attacks are identity-based, AuthMind is aiming to fix this

As 9 out of 10 cyber-attacks are identity-based, AuthMind is addressing one of the most urgent and under-protected layers of cybersecurity today. By focusing on real-time identity risk, AuthMind is working to stop threats that exploit human and machine identities.

10. Ten New Portfolio Companies

This year, we welcomed ten new companies into the Black Opal Ventures portfolio, which are helping better diagnose and treat dementia, ADHD, cardiac disease, mental health and mobility issues, applying the power of compute to find affordable cancer cures, and ensuring long term resiliency in the biomanufacturing supply chain.

11. 11 Revenue Generating Core Companies Demonstrating 600% Revenue Growth

Our core portfolio now includes 11 revenue-generating companies, which collectively demonstrated 600% revenue growth. This performance reinforces that companies built to

solve meaningful problems can scale quickly while delivering measurable impact.

12. 12,000+ Research Papers Referenced

Empatica technology has been referenced or used in over 12,000 research papers, underscoring its scientific credibility and global reach. Few metrics better capture sustained impact than becoming foundational infrastructure for research worldwide.
